The Interaction of Gender and Technology (3 ects)

This series of lectures will examine the basic notions of gender and technology and how they are perceived to impact on one another. Lecture topics will also include: application of feminist theories to women's roles in technology, the impact of essentialism on the participation of women in technological development, the role of enjoyment and pleasure in technology, the role of power in technology, technology and time and how the rate of technological development differently impacts on men and women. At a more practical level, there will be a description of techniques for critical analysis of educational and other 'texts' used in technology to identify possible hidden gender bias.
